Insight into the world of work: How my internship at smino influenced my career choice

One evening in July, when I was spontaneously looking for a job online, I stumbled across smino’s internship advertisement.
It was already late in the evening and after a thorough search I decided to apply.
And lo and behold!
Over the following weeks, I was invited to interviews with the team.
And I got the job afterwards.
Briefly about me: I’m a student at the cantonal school in Wettingen and in the final year of my technical baccalaureate.

I got off to a very good start and was immediately well received and supported by the team.
I got my first insights into what smino actually stands for.
In the weeks that followed, I was given a lot of information and enjoyed learning many new things.
I took part in several training courses, as did all new employees.
As I had no experience of construction or marketing in the construction industry, I learned a lot.
It took me a while to internalize all the systems, foreign words and everything else, but then everything went very well.
My highlights definitely include the introductory lessons I attended at the beginning of the internship.
It was a completely new world for me and I really enjoyed learning the various new specialist topics. From beginner to (semi-)professional For example, the introduction to the smino app.
I still remember that day very well, when the sales team gave a very informative and entertaining presentation.
I gained a lot from this training.
One important thing I learned is how to use multiple Adobe programs.
At school we have already had introductions to most of the programs.
However, I have to admit that a lot of things are better memorized when you can use these tools in practice and are confronted with them on your own, rather than just in a theoretical way.
This is certainly an area in which I was able to improve my knowledge over the course of the six months.
I was also able to expand my basic knowledge of marketing. Creative marketing At the beginning of my internship I only had a rough idea about marketing, but now I can proudly say that I know most of what it takes to be successful in a marketing team.
One major project that I was allowed to manage myself was the development and creation of smino softwear – not to be confused with software.
With the help of the marketing team, I was able to design the clothing that the sales team will wear at events.
It was a very rewarding experience and, as mentioned above, I was able to expand my knowledge in various areas, especially in the use of different design tools.
I was also responsible for maintaining the website and was able to design prototypes for new updates to the website, which was also very exciting and gave me a little insight into the world of UX design. What happens next…? The internship was very important for my future career choice, I gained a valuable insight into the world of work and what the everyday life of a marketing employee actually looks like.
Conclusion: I am convinced that marketing is the right path for me and that I want to work in this field.
However, I would like to take the path towards fashion or general advertising marketing.
This is despite the fact that the insight into the construction sector was interesting and I saw how important it is not to neglect this sector in times of digitalization.
I realized that I lacked the important knowledge and interest in this sector.
The internship helped me a lot with my future career choice.
I can only recommend anyone who has the opportunity to do an internship at smino.
And who knows, maybe I will have the opportunity to work with smino again in the future, I would be delighted.
