Managing many projects simultaneously thanks to smino Gafner's company is not a traditional construction management office. He and his team support clients as overall project managers from the initial construction plan to completion and ensure that the projects are realized according to their needs and optimized in terms of cost, schedule and quality. "At smino, I create a project after the second contact with the client and use it in all phases from then until handover," explains Gafner. He not only manages the project in Haltikon, but also works on construction sites throughout Switzerland. He used to work with to-do lists on his cell phone and recorded everything that was discussed in meetings in various Word documents. Since becoming self-employed, however, he has taken on the overall management of all projects himself - and there are a lot of them: "Without smino, I would simply be lost and would probably only be able to manage about half the projects at any one time." Thanks to a good team behind him and the up-to-date log and pending lists in smino, he always has all of his construction sites on his radar and can work from anywhere with his tablet without having to constantly lug an entire office infrastructure and large mountains of paper from Zurich to his project in Sion. "My machine engineer, for example, is an important man in the project in Haltikon. It's enormously helpful that I can see for myself what his status is," says Gafner happily. "This means we don't waste time on tedious internal coordination and can concentrate on the next steps." And with a laugh, Gafner adds: "Sometimes he literally asks me to look things up myself - and I always find what I want to know very quickly." This is particularly helpful in a complex project, such as the wood-fired power plant in Haltikon, where things don't just heat up after completion, but often during the construction phase as well.
